Here are six good writing competitions and calls for submission all Northlanders should strive to succeed in.

Let’s get lots of Tai Tokerau talent in the mix. Why not share the draft of your work with a supportive Northland writer then smash out the competition.

• If you’re a poet, put in an entry of 6-8 poems in the 2019 Sarah Broom Poetry Prize, worth $10,000. Closes Feb 28.
• Wallace Foundation Short Fiction Content – for LGBTQI short stories. $1000 prize. Entries close 31 March.
• North & South Short Short Story Competition (Flash Fiction). Entries close March 11. Enter as many times as you like.
• Takahe Short Story Competition – closes March 31. $250 plus a whole lot of glory at stake.
• ….and the short story competition that just won’t quit: Page & Blackmore (this one’s been going for at least a decade and it’s judged by a kickass writer)
