‘Disappointment and rejection is part and parcel of the writing life’ – #100 Kiwi Writers, 100 Words of Wisdom

The sooner a writer accepts disappointment and rejection is part and parcel of the writing life the more fearless and happier they’ll become.

– Kathryn Burnett, Award-winning screenwriter

“Good writers make writing look easy but as anyone who has written knows – it’s hard graft.  And that’s before we even get to the disappointment, rejection and doubt that inevitably comes when we do creative work.

“How can it be any other way? We pour their hearts and thoughts into our writing – and then spend our lives seeking external approval for it.  But I’m not being a Debbie Downer – I just know first-hand the sooner a writer accepts disappointment and rejection is part and parcel of the writing life the more fearless and happier they’ll become.”
